Vampires are symbols of the ruling class. In Karl Marx’s Capital and Bob Marley’s Babylon System they make visible their extraction of surplus-value from working classes the world over. In the new novel Thirst,writer/activist Nicholas Powers renews the vampire genre by placing an upsurge of the politics of resistance, an all-out attack on racism, heteronormative sexism and anti-fascism at the heart of capital, with Thirst being a stake to be driven through that heart.
DR. NICHOLAS POWERS is a poet, journalist and Associate Professor of Literature.
